Capel Shire Council agreed to review the Capel Civic Precinct Stage 4 at its Ordinary September Council meeting, after refusing any tender proposed for the project at its August Council meeting.
Shire of Capel Chief Executive Officer Ian McCabe said Council needed to make decisions based on long term outcomes.
“Council remains committed to providing facilities that will be well-utilised and deliver value to the community, but the youth and community centre promised by stage 4 will now be reviewed so that an evidence based facility will in time be delivered,” Mr McCabe said.
“Council resolved at this meeting to close out funding commitments and integrate the site with the completed stage 3 to maximise amenity.”
He said council agreed to reallocate $180,000 for works to complete Stage 3, upgrade the existing BMX pump track and tidy up interfaces between Stages 3, 3A and 4 in 2018/19.
Mr McCabe said renegotiations of grant funding agreements with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and Lotterywest would also get underway.
