The Shire of Capel health team, in conjunction with the Department of Health, have conducted two aerial helicopter treatments so far this season targeting mosquito larvae.
Following a treatment, the team monitor breeding sites to ensure that the treatment has been successful and also trap adult mosquitoes to determine nuisance numbers and virus isolation.
Trapping results currently indicate similar numbers at this time of year to previous years and residents are reminded to ‘Fight the Bite’ by wearing long loose clothing and using a mosquito repellent that contains DEET or Picardin.
The health team will continue to monitor the mosquito population and conduct future helicopter treatments based on monitoring results as the weather conditions permit.
