Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Ballarat, so the news today that the State Opposition has promised $5.1 million towards the upgrade of the Ballarat Sports and Event Centre, should it win government at the State Election in November, is welcomed by the City of Ballarat.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh says Council has worked with the Ballarat Basketball Association over many years to secure federal and state funding that will ensure the facility provides modern facilities for the local sporting community.
“Our community loves sport – playing and watching – the funding announced today by the State Opposition will go towards providing a strength, conditioning and learning centre that will be used by local students, athletes and sporting clubs”.
“We know that active communities are healthier, happier and more connected communities. Sport plays a massive role in this; investment in sporting facilities is money well spent”.
I’d like to thank the State Opposition for promising this money to build a better sporting facility for the people of Ballarat.
