City of Ballarat welcomes today’s State Government announcement of $350,000 to improve facilities and increase services at the Wendouree Children’s Centre.
The money will be used to create a fully integrated family and children’s services facility at the Wendouree Children’s Centre, particularly the provision of maternal and child health services.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh says the investment will bring significant benefits to the local community and that the City of Ballarat will provide a $210,000 co-contribution.
Seventy five children from birth through to four-year-old kindergarten age, currently use the service.
“A trial drop-in maternal and child health program run earlier this year showed the provision of flexible and easily accessible services helps engage children from this community in a range of health and wellbeing activities, including kindergarten and children’s services”.
The proposal is for two consulting rooms for maternal and child health programs, a waiting area and storage rooms, and new bathrooms including all abilities access.
“Permanent co-location of maternal and child health services at the Wendouree Children’s Centre supports City of Ballarat’s Municipal Early Years Plan strategic priority to work in partnership to create a community where all families’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing are cared for, enabling them to lead healthy and active lives
“I’m pleased the State Government recognises the need in this community and has committed funding to increase services and facilities at the Wendouree Children’s Centre”.
