Bellingen Shire Council is partnering with a number of groups and services to host a free community barbecue in Dorrigo to mark Mental Health Month.  This event will take place at the Dangar Falls picnic area on Coramba Road in Dorrigo on Thursday 25 October 2018 between 11.00am and 2.00pm.

The barbecue is an opportunity for the wider Dorrigo community to come together and make new connections with each other. The event is being supported by a range of groups and services including the Dorrigo Plateau Local Aboriginal Land Council, Mid North Coast Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre, Mid North Coast Local Health District Health Promotion and Rural Adversity Mental Health Program, Chess Connect Partners In Recovery, Carers NSW, Mission Australia Family and Carers Mental Health Program, Bellingen Shire Community Drug Action Team, Stand By Support After Suicide, The Community Transport Company, Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre, Dorrigo Rotary and Mid North Coast Ability Links.

Each year, Mental Health Month is celebrated throughout October with the aim of encouraging us to reflect on our own mental health and wellbeing. The theme for 2018 is ‘Share the Journey’ and focuses on the importance of social connections in both our journey to better mental health and our ability to cope with life’s challenges.

Bellingen Mayor, Cr Mayor Dominic King said “Building connections in and across our communities can help people cope better with the challenges that life presents. I extend an invitation to all members of our community to come and meet up at the Dangar Falls barbecue on 25 October 2018”.
