Eurobodalla’s road users are being asked to “Spot Joe Rider” at two special events to celebrate Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to join Eurobodalla Ulysses Club riders who will wear ‘Joe Rider’ vests to help raise awareness for motorcycle road safety.

Joe Rider represents every rider on the road, and the campaign urges drivers to be on the lookout for motorcyclists.

The first ride is on Saturday 13 October starting at the Batemans Bay War Memorial on Clyde Street. From there riders will travel to East Lynne.

On Saturday 27 October local riders will travel from Batemans Bay to Braidwood to meet up with motorcyclists from Canberra and Queanbeyan and share tales from the journey.

Eurobodalla Council’s Road Safety Officer Kate McDougall said Motorcycle Awareness Month provided a great opportunity to raise awareness of motorcyclists on our roads.

“Almost 16 per cent of all casualty crashes in the Eurobodalla are motorcycle crashes, which is far higher than the state average of 12.2 per cent,” Ms McDougall said.

“The majority (61 per cent) of multi-vehicle crashes involving a motorbike are due to the action of the other driver, usually failing to see or give way to the rider.

“We can all do our bit to help keep motorcyclists safe on the roads by keeping an eye out for ‘Joe Rider’ – that is every motorbike on the road.”
