Did you know there are more than 800 species of birds in Australia? Find out more fun facts about the birds in our region through the following free events:

Both events are being held to coincide with Birdlife Australia’s Aussie Backyard Bird Count (22–28 October) that invites people from across the country to spend 20 minutes outdoors during the week recording the species and number of birds sighted.

Bird sightings can be recorded in any location–a backyard, school, park or oval–at any time during the week using the Aussie Bird Count app, or via the Aussie Bird Count website.

Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson said the events were an opportunity for residents to find out more about the birds in the shire.

“The Macedon Ranges has some absolutely stunning bird-watching spots.

“These events provide a chance for beginners and experienced twitchers to gain a deeper understanding of the birds in our region, and enjoy the outdoors as well.

“Each event will have an expert on-hand to provide insights into the variety of birds encountered, and also tips on where to look for them,”  she said.

Bookings are essential and numbers are limited.
