Remembrance Day – 100 Years On

The historic Cenotaph at Green Point will fall silent at 11am on 11 November this year – the 100th anniversary  of Remembrance Day.

This year marks a century since the guns fell silent on the Western Front and ended the First World War after four continuous years of warfare.

As is tradition, Australians will pause at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to honour and remember those who have fought for our country.

To commemorate this Remembrance Day, Council will hold a ceremony in conjunction with the Hampton RSL and Beaumaris RSL at Green Point.

The location of this service holds particular significance to the Bayside community. Green Point is home to the Brighton War Memorial, a heritage listed Cenotaph. The site was completed in 1927 as a memorial to local residents who lost their lives during World War 1. In recent times it has taken on a broader meaning to commemorate the sacrifice and service by Australians in other wars, conflicts and peacekeeping campaigns.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Remembrance Day Service at the Green Point Cenotaph on Sunday 11 November.
