We’re looking for enthusiastic can-do people to join Wollongong City Council in a number of entry-level job opportunities on offer as part of our regular cadetship, traineeship and apprenticeships drive.
Applications have opened for the entry-level positions that are targeted at people either fresh from school or starting or changing a career. People can apply for one or more of the cadetships, apprenticeships or traineeships.
“Local Government has so much to offer people in terms of careers and I’d really encourage anyone looking to get a foot in the door to have a look at what’s available,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
“There is such a diversity of jobs within our workforce. In fact, according to statistics there are about 300 different job occupations within local government across NSW, which represents a whopping 63 per cent of occupations in the country.
“And, of course, the real benefit to working here is that what you do has a direct impact on your community. You can see what you do helps make our City better for others.’’
Currently Council supports 15 cadets, 9 apprentices, 25 trainees and 5 school-based trainees through our Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee programs. The program allows participants to combine full-time work with training and part-time or school-based study.
Council’s Director Corporate Services Renee Campbell said the positions provided an invaluable opportunity to combine study and learning in a supportive and inclusive environment.
“We want to be clear – these opportunities are open to anyone in our community and while we want applications from young people, we welcome applications from anyone looking to start or change their career,’’ she said. “We are an employer who is committed to building a workforce that is reflective of our community and we encourage everyone of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to apply for any of the positions they might be interested in.’’
For more information on the positions, job descriptions and details of how to apply please visit Council’s website at or call Customer Service on (02) 4227 7111.
