Children's bike track underway at Bridges Hill Park Playground

The Bridges Hill Park Playground and Access Improvement project is tracking well with the first stage of the upgrade nearly finished.  

The project will soon progress into the second stage, which involves the construction of the regional playground, a recreational space that will no doubt impress our youngest residents and visitors to the region. The site is certainly starting to take shape with work crews pouring the concrete for the bike track.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the facility will be first class and is an important, long term community asset that will benefit the broader community.  

“The park is already enjoyed by many different people from fitness groups, children, young families and walkers. The access improvements undertaken in the first part of the project provide better connectivity from the Cessnock CBD and will attract more community members to this great recreational space. The sandstone retaining walls, widening of footpaths and other associated works look fantastic.”  

Once the concrete is poured for the bike track work will commence on constructing more sandstone walls and gardens beds will be planted. Crews will then focus on bringing the playground to life. The project recently received a wonderful funding injection, attracting $936,315 under the Round Two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.  

The playground includes fitness equipment, a multi- purpose hard court, a children’s bicycle circuit, a nature play area and adventure playground. The plans also include the installation of three fitness stations, BBQ facilities, an enclosed toddler’s play area, yarning circle and sensory bush tucker garden.
