Free workshops for local landholders

Cessnock City Council is partnering with Hunter Local Land Services (HLLS) and Hunter Region Landcare Network (HRLN) to deliver a series of landholder workshops across the Cessnock local government area in early 2019.  

The principal focus will be finding out how HLLS and HRLN can support agricultural enterprises in the area undertaking land care activities such as fencing off native vegetation, re-vegetation and erosion control.  

To assist in developing the workshops and ensuring they are relevant to the issues facing local landholders, Cessnock City Council is calling on landholders to take part in a survey. The online survey will determine what environmental issues are challenging local landholders and also what land care related activities they are currently undertaking to manage and enhance the land under their care.  

The information gathered in the surveys will help Council staff, HLLS and HRLN to tailor and deliver workshops which are relevant and informative.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent is encouraging all local landholders to take part in this important survey and to come along to the workshops in 2019.  

“This is about working with landholders to improve their agricultural productivity while enhancing the capacity of the land to support the many threatened species in the area including woodland birds such as the Regent Honeyeater and the Swift Parrot.”  

“The protection of our local environment doesn’t have to come at the expense of productivity and has to be a collaborative effort, with each resident and landholder playing their part,” added Cr Pynsent.
