New tourism organisation Amazing South Coast Tourism Inc has recruited more than three decades of experience to help lead its members in promoting the region as a destination by appointing Peter Grigg as its executive officer.

Peter, who spent 17 years as a barramundi fishing charter operator in the Top End, has previously held roles such as general manager of East Kimberley Tourism Association and Tourism Central Australia, tourism development officer in Central Queensland and a board member of several Federal and State tourism related boards.

The Amazing South Coast is not unfamiliar to Peter, who along with his wife Kate and daughter Emily, have holidayed in the region many times. Peter said it had been a long held family dream to move to the region and saw this role as an opportunity not to miss.

“I have had the opportunity to work in three of the most dramatic landscapes in Australia, the Kimberley, Australia’s red centre and the sandstone wilderness country of Queensland’s central highlands, so I am really looking forward to being part of the Amazing South Coast,” he said. “The landscape is as breathtaking as the Kimberley, as iconic and the red centre and as diverse in product as central Queensland.”

Chairman of the Amazing South Coast Inc Dennis Wellington said it was exciting to have Peter on board at what is a great time for the region.

“Given the heightened interest in the south coast through our tourism campaign and ever increasing cultural significance through the Anzac centenary and Field of Light, there is now a significant opportunity to promote this region while we have national and international attention,” Mr Wellington said.

“Peter’s wide range of experience and understanding of the tourism industry will maximise our potential and bring benefits to the region and local businesses.”

Peter said he is committed to working with local and state leaders, tourism operators and general businesses across all sectors to ensure the Amazing South Coast region of WA is seen as a destination in its own right.

His will begin in his new role on February 1, 2019, but is planning a short introductory visit from this Sunday, October 7 to Wednesday, October 10, which will include tourism industry ‘meet and greet’ functions in Mount Barker, Denmark and Albany.
