Driving for Drought 1000 cancelled

MEDIA RELEASE 11 October 2018

Bathurst Regional Council has cancelled its proposed drought fundraiser, Driving for Drought 1000, after a lack of registrations.

Driving for Drought 1000 aimed to bring 1000 cars together for a lap of Mount Panorama circuit to raise funds for Buy a Bale. The event was scheduled to take place on Sunday 28 October 2018.

There has been limited interest in the event and we have less than 100 entries despite extending the entry timeframe and the ongoing promotion of the event.

An extensive promotional campaign was undertaken to promote the event and the registration process. This included radio and print advertising and social media posts on a range of Facebook pages including the BRC corporate page, Mount Panorama and National Motor Racing Museum has failed to attract enough entries for the event to proceed.

As a result, Council is cancelling the event and will fully refund entry fees or if the entrants would like, their fee can be donated to Buy a Bale and Council will ensure this occurs.

Council is providing drought support locally through its free water for farmers project and halving the cost to buy water for other residents who require water from the Hereford St standpipes.
