A group of Benalla residents have had the opportunity to learn more about their own backyard, in the second Benalla Unpacked Bus Tour on 4 October 2018.

A pilot Benalla Unpacked Bus Tour was held in July as an initiative led by the Community Plan Implementation Steering Committee in partnership with Age Friendly Benalla and the Council. The tours provide an opportunity for new residents and established community members to learn more about what Benalla Rural City has to offer and in turn, spread this information to others.

The October tour included a visit to some of Benalla Rural City’s assets including BPACC, the Visitor Information Centre, the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre, the ‘Sophia’ mural at Goorambat, the GrainCorp Devenish Silo Art, the Baddaginnie Op Shop, Lake Nillahcootie, Swanpool Cinema, Moorngag Hall, Tatong Recreation Reserve and Public Hall as well as the Molyullah Public Hall and Winton Motor Raceway.

Ms Freida Andrews, Chair of the Connected Community Working Group, which is part of the Community Plan Implementation Steering Committee, said that it was a great opportunity for participants to learn more about Benalla Rural City.

“Participants had the opportunity to interact with others while learning about the many things our community has to offer. We look forward to delivering similar activities in the future,” Ms Andrews said.

Acting Mayor, Cr Peter Davis, said the tour was a great way for people to become more familiar with the Rural City’s attractions.

“The dedication of the volunteers on the Community Plan Implementation Steering Committee has made this tour possible,” said Cr Davis.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to learn more about the many attractions of our Rural City.”
