Gladstone Regional Council is calling for nominations from regional residents aged 15 to 24 who are interested in being part of the 2019 Gladstone Region Youth Council.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said this was an opportunity for young residents to enhance their leadership skills and be part of an advisory committee.

“This is a platform for our younger generations to let their voice be heard, provide a youth perspective to Council and have a greater say on youth initiatives across the Gladstone Region,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Successful candidates can be involved in their community with the ability to table issues and community concerns at Youth Council meetings and discuss how to mitigate impacts.

“The nine Youth Council members also assist with designing events for Council’s SUNfest and Youth Week programs and have been involved with community youth events and public art projects.”

Members also attend the Mayor’s Youth Breakfast as part of Council’s Youth Week activities and provide a youth perspective through representation on other business and industry forums.

Gladstone Region Youth Council’s annual term aligns with the Queensland school year with meetings on the first and third Monday of each month, except public holidays.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, November 9 with forms and details available at www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/youth-events-and-activities
