Well known Fairfax media columnist Jane Gilmore will be the special guest at a Q and A event in Mildura later this month focusing on gender equity in our region.
Gender Equity in Sunraysia – Let’s achieve it together will be held at the Mildura Rowing Club on Friday 26 October and is designed to initiate community conversation around gender equality and how it can be progressed in our region.
Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Ali Cupper said gender equality was a conversation for everyone in the community.
“Whether you’re a man, woman, mother, father, son or daughter, this is a conversation we all need to have if we’re to advance gender equality in our municipality,” Cr Cupper said.
“This is the perfect forum to allow the community to share their experiences and thoughts on how a gender-equal community can improve people’s lives in our region.”
The Q and A event will feature a local panel led by Jane, who has been a prominent advocate for gender equality in the national media.
She writes a weekly column for Fairfax Digital (The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age) focusing on the latest data and research into issues affecting women.
Jane has also written for media outlets including The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, The Daily Telegraph, SBS and the ABC and has expertise in areas including gender diversity solutions, the gender pay gap, perception bias, violence against women and domestic and sexual violence.
She’s also created the FixedIt project, which critiques the way women are represented in the mainstream media, and is writing a book based on this project.
Gender Equity in Sunraysia – Let’s achieve it together is a free event and will be held at the Mildura Rowing Club on Friday 26 October starting at 6pm.
