Wollongong City Libraries are set to undergo a major software upgrade that will provide customers with a more ‘user-friendly’ experience.
The new system is accessible from portable devices such as mobile phones, and provides innovative features such as reader recommendations for books of similar genres, customer reviews of books, movies and CDs, and a single point of access for eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks.
Access will also be available via the new digital catalogue to archives such as photos and maps, with links to extra information and features such as audio files.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor, Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM, said the upgrade will provide exciting new experiences for library customers.
“Council is committed to providing the people of Wollongong with world class library facilities, matched by the most up-to-date software for our library services,” he said. The software upgrade, planned for Tuesday 16 October, will result in a minor disruption to some library services.
The upgrade will temporarily affect systems such as computer bookings, use of online resources and the library catalogue.
All libraries will remain open and library staff can help customers borrow and return items in person during the upgrade.
