South Beach will come alive this Sunday when the first ever Fremantle 3x3 street basketball competition hits the South Beach sports court.
The mixed competition will feature three different age groups - 12-15 years, 16-20 and over 20.
There also will be a DJ and MC to add to the streetball atmosphere and plenty of giveaways on the day.
The event is being run in conjunction with Basketball WA.
Basketball WA participation manager Michael Cake said it promises to be an action-packed day.
“It’s an exciting, fast brand of basketball. It’s about enhancing our vision of taking basketball back to the streets,” Mr Cake said.
“And it’s now an elite pathway. People can make it all the way to the Olympics with 3x3 included at Tokyo 2020.”
“Anybody aged 12 and up can register for the event just by getting on the City of Fremantle What’s On page, or they can just rock up and register on the day.”
The South Beach 3x3 Streetball Competition is on Sunday October 14. Registration opens at 9am, with the competition from 10am to 2pm.
All games will be played according to Basketball WA rules and a referee will be assigned to each game.
The South Beach sports court, which also caters for volleyball, futsal and netball, has been a hit with the Fremantle community since it opened in February this year.
The $195,000 project evolved over five years with community consultation involving sporting groups, residents and visitors beginning in late 2014.
