Gladstone City Library is helping residents to improve their digital skills via a digital petting zoo as part of the international Get Online Week initiative.

Get Online Week is being conducted in Australia for the first time next week and will feature hundreds of community events across the nation promoting internet usage.

The campaign aims to support the 2.5 million Australians who are not online, including those in the Gladstone Region.

The digital petting zoo will be hosted at Gladstone City Library from 10am to noon from Wednesday to Saturday, October 17-20.

The free event will enable participants to acquaint themselves with digital devices including laptops, tablets and e-readers

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the digital petting zoo event would show those with no experience of using the internet that it need not be a daunting experience.

Bookings are not required to participate in the digital petting zoo.
