John Barnes Exhibition

John Barnes, an iconic local artist, will be exhibiting at Lithgow Library for the month of November – his books and art are well known for their local imagery and historic significance.

Lithgow historian and artist John Barnes, renowned for his drawings of buildings in the Lithgow area, is set to create an exhibition that tells the stories of Lithgow. On show from Thursday November 1 until Friday 30 November 2018, this exhibition will have audiences engaged in the tales that have fascinated locals for more than a century.

With each drawing, John Barnes collects the stories of the people surrounding each place. From the Barton Park Murders to Sir Joseph Cook in the Vale of Clwydd Mine, John’s images divulge some of Lithgow’s most gruesome and uplifting stories.

“The diversity of the artworks that have been on display this year at the Lithgow Library has been outstanding”, said Mayor Ray Thompson. “John’s work is of local and historical significance, this is a great opportunity to have a look at some of his work”.
