Lakes Entrance and district has secured East Gippsland Shire Council funding to run three events.
Family film nights, a three-on-three basketball competition, paddle challenge and family film nights will ensure there is a range of events extending from January through to May, with support from Council’s Regional And District Events Sponsorship (RADES) program.
Metung Business and Tourism Association will receive $2,000 to run the Metung Village Green Family Film Nights on January 2, 9 and 16 this coming summer. The event is expected to attract more than 1200 people over the three screenings.
Meanwhile, CLB Ops Co Pty Ltd will run a three-on-three basketball festival across three days (March 1-3, 2019) – an event for all ages and abilities. The event has received $5,000 in RADES funding annually for three years.
East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Joe Rettino said the family friendly community event will have a junior competition (U13, U15 and U18), open (17 and over) and elite competition across the three days including a Corporate Cup event on the Friday night encouraging local businesses to play off against each, network and have fun.
“Three-point shoot outs and slam dunk contests throughout the weekend and spectators free. Participants will come from East Gippsland, Wellington Shire, local and Melbourne basketball associations, interstate and further regional areas,” Cr Rettino said.
Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance will look to grow and underpin the ongoing viability of the popular Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge with $7,000 in funding split across the next three years.
The paddle challenge is the pre-eminent, multi-faceted water based adventure sport event in the Gippsland region and run on an entirely volunteer basis.
“The event, in its fifth year, attracted 180 competitors in 2018 and with an intent for more digital marketing and an update of the event website to further support marketing, the paddle challenge should remain as an important event on the autumn events calendar in Lakes Entrance and district,” Cr Rettino said.
