The community is invited to the rededication of the recently restored memorial to distinguished Lithgow resident James Padley at Hassans Walls Lookout on Saturday 20 October at 10:00am to commemorate the centenary of his death on 20 October 1918.

James Padley settled in Lithgow in 1902 having come from Yorkshire England, through the Victorian gold rush at Castlemaine, followed by the heady days of Melbourne’s boom years, then “home” to England and back again to Australia.

He was the driving force in the Lithgow Progress Association and the chief instigator of the development of Hassans Walls.

To coincide with the centenary of James Padley’s death and the launch of a book about him titled Padley of the Pedestal by author Keith painter, Lithgow City Council has restored the pedestal next to the Sir Joseph Cook boardwalk at Hassans Walls Lookout.

An author talk by Keith Painter on his book Padley of the Pedestal will take place on Friday 19 October at 3:00pm at Lithgow Library.  For more information on this talk, and to make a booking please contact the Lithgow Library on 6352 9100.
