Spring into worm farming, composting workshops

Eurobodalla residents can learn how to turn organic scraps into a rich garden fertiliser at free workshops next month.

Back by popular demand, Eurobodalla Council is again hosting its free home composting and worm farming workshops at Moruya and Batemans Bay.

On completion participants receive a voucher for either a free compost bin kit or worm farm and worms, depending on the course.

Council’s Waste Services Manager Adam Patyus said the workshops would demonstrate how residents could transform unwanted food scraps into a gourmet garden delight.

“Our popular composting and worm farming workshops aim to reduce the amount of organic waste going into landfill by helping Eurobodalla residents recycle their food scraps at home,” he said.

“Composting or worm farming also helps keep kitchen waste bins dry and odour free – eliminating the need for plastic bag liners.”

The workshops also suit those who have had trouble composting or worm farming at home, with the opportunity to ask questions and learn what they could be doing differently.

Composting workshops will be held 9.30am to 11am on Friday 9 November at Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens, Friday 16 November at the SAGE Garden in Moruya and Saturday 17 November at the SAGE Garden in Moruya. Places are limited – phone Council’s Waste Services on 4474 1024 to book.

The worm farming workshops will be held Friday 2 November, from 9.30am to 11.30am, at Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens and Saturday 3 November, from 12pm to 2pm, at the SAGE Garden in Moruya. To book for worm farming workshops phone South Coast Colleges on 4472 9202.
