Cyclists are encouraged to make their way to Hindmarsh Square/Mukata tomorrow morning to grab a free caffeine hit and breakfast on National Ride2Work Day.
Organised nationally by Bicycle Network, Ride2Work Day is the largest celebration of commuter bike riding in Australia, celebrating the benefits of riding to work while bringing together the communities that support it.
The main objective of the day is to normalise the idea of riding to work. It encourages people who have never ridden to work before to give it a go, and it allows regular riders to stay motivated and encourage their work mates to jump on the bike more often.
The City of Adelaide will put on a free breakfast from 7am until 9am, supported by Australian Bananas, with healthy breakfast snacks served by the Rotary Club West Adelaide.
People are encouraged to ride along the Frome Bikeway on the way and check out the new bike counter which displays daily and annual data on the counter in real time. The numbers currently show that well over 30,000 trips have been taken on the bikeway since the counter was installed in August.
City of Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Mark Goldstone encouraged people riding to work to refuel at Hindmarsh Square with free coffee and breakfast.
“The numbers tell us that there’s more than 10,000 trips into and out of the city each weekday, which equates to 5,000 people and, with warmer weather on the way, I encourage everyone to get on their bikes more often,” said Mr Goldstone.
“With a record $12 million investment from City of Adelaide and the State Government on the city bikeways project, this is a council that is serious about providing safe, separated bikeways that encourage more people to ride bikes.
“We’re also asking motorists to drive with extra care on Ride2Work Day, with more people riding bikes on our roads than usual.”
Free registrations for National Ride2Work Day 2018 are now open here.
