Liverpool welcomes Japanese multinationals Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller was thrilled to see two of Japan’s biggest multinational companies sign investment agreements to set up operations at Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
“Now that the earth moving equipment is rolling at Western Sydney Airport, it’s great to see attention turning to the Aerotropolis,” Mayor Waller said.
“Not only will these two companies create hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs in their own right, they will serve as anchor tenants for the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
“Businesses large and small will take confidence from the fact that these two global heavyweights have made a commitment to our region and see the benefits of setting up operations at the Aerotropolis.
“Companies as big as MHI and SMFG locating at the Aerotropolis will also boost growth centres in the region.
“We expect to see companies in supporting industries, such as professional services, locating at nearby centres, including the Liverpool CBD.
“These businesses will offer a diverse range of jobs, giving the residents of South West Sydney the opportunity to forge a meaningful career close to home.”
Representatives of both companies signed a memorandum of understanding with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres on Monday night.
“Liverpool City Council has proudly fostered a relationship with its Japanese sister city, Toda, for more than a quarter of a century and recently met with Japanese businesses to highlight our city’s outstanding investment potential,” Mayor Waller said.
“We are taking charge and connecting with businesses across the globe to make sure they have their sights set on Liverpool as the gateway to Western Sydney’s diverse, talented community and the opportunities that can be found in this rapidly growing part of Australia.”
The memorandum of understanding follows the announcement of four Australian universities planning to collaborate on a world-class institution at Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis that champions science and engineering.
“It’s only been a month since four of Australia’s leading universities agreed to develop a world-leading Aerospace, Engineering and Science Innovation Hub in the Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis,” Mayor Waller said.
“Now we have MHI and SMFG joining global aerospace giant Northrop Grumman at the Aerotropolis.
“The future has never looked brighter for someone growing up in Liverpool. They now have world class educational opportunities on their doorstep, which they will be able to follow with a career in their own region.”
