Youth AFL and basketball sports program returns

Popular free youth sports program NightFields returns to Gwynne Park every Thursday for six weeks starting from 18 October.

Participation in the AFL and basketball games for six to 18 year olds includes a free dinner provided at each session.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the program was just one of many City initiatives that supported healthy and active lifestyles for children and young people.

“NightFields provides young residents with opportunities to keep active, receive mentorship, socialise and be connected with local and state sports clubs,” he said.

As a direct result of the Term 1 program, more than 24 young people joined the local junior football club and more than 11 joined the Save the Children and YMCA youth engagement programs.

The program runs every Thursday until 22 November from 4.30 to 6pm. Participants can turn up and register before the start of each event.

NightFields is a family oriented program with other activities and games also on offer for younger siblings under the age of six.

The initiative is made possible through partnerships between the City of Armadale and the WA Football Commission, Seville Dragons Basketball, Hope Community Services, headspace Armadale, Save the Children, YMCA and the Rotary Club of Armadale.
