Garage Sale Trail this weekend …

Central Highland’s, in fact the nation’s, biggest bargain shopping weekend of the year—the annual Garage Sale Trail is almost here.

‘Put on some comfy walking shoes’, is the advice from Central Highlands’ Mayor Kerry Hayes as he prepares for the region’s fifth consecutive year partnering the event.

‘We have the second-most garage sales per capita in Queensland right here,’ the mayor said.

‘The Boxing Day sales have nothing on this bargain hunting bonanza!

‘There’s more than 15,000 items registered for sale; more than 4000 shoppers and sellers, and 82 sales booked in with furniture, books, homewares and kid’s stuff being the top-rated categories.’

Jumping on-board the Trail is the Emerald Scouts with their first-ever sale at Scout HQ on the corner of Retro and Opal Streets in Emerald.

Stephanie Laws said the Scouts are very excited to have the opportunity to raise some money to be able to travel to the Cuboree and Jamboree, and add to the kitty to upgrade of the Scout hut.

‘We have a household full of donated items in the sale, and we are having a sausage sizzle, so come on over when all the shopping’s made you hungry,’ she said.

The forecast is for bargains so don’t worry what the weather is doing. Most sales are going ahead rain, hail or shine and council will keep an updated list on its website.

Mayor Hayes points out that the event is a fun and very social way to promote reuse and reduce waste to landfill, meet the neighbours, and make a few extra bucks.

‘Weird and wonderful aside, the Trail provides thousands of Australians with a chance to re-home thousands of items that may otherwise end up in landfill,’ he said.
