City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the Melbourne Awards were they city's highest accolade, celebrating the inspirational Melburnians who dedicate their time and energy for the benefit of the city.
"From iconic institutions like the Queen Victoria Market to inspirational community groups like Movember, each of our 24 finalists contributes to the fabric of Melbourne in their own unique way," the Lord Mayor said.
"Another important part of the awards program is the Melburnian of the Year. This award goes to someone who is an inspirational role model, one who has made an outstanding contribution to the city, as well as a significant contribution to the Melbourne community.
"Congratulations to the finalists. I can't wait to announce the winners at the awards gala dinner at Town Hall on Saturday 17 November," Lord Mayor Sally Capp said.
Celebrating its 16th year, the Melbourne Awards celebrate significant achievements in the areas of sustainability, multiculturalism, community and strengthening Melbourne's Profile, with subcategories recognising corporations and community organisations within their respective fields.
The finalists were selected following a rigorous assessment and interview process conducted by an independent panel made up of 40 judges.
The Melburnian of the Year is selected by a committee of notable Melburnians appointed by the Lord Mayor.
The 2017 Melbournian of the Year was awarded to Dr Susan Alberti AC for her long and outstanding contribution to major medical research, particularly as a philanthropist, fundraiser and advocate for type 1 diabetes care and research.
