Russell Square’s north field is to get new lighting, creating new opportunities for the East Ballarat facility to be used at night.

City of Ballarat welcomes the news the State Government has committed $450,000 to provide 100 lux lighting at the ground, adding to the $300,000 Council has committed toward the lighting project.

The new lighting will mean East Ballarat residents and Russell Square's numerous sporting club’s and user groups will be able to maximise use of this key sporting reserve.

Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh says Russell Square is used by soccer, cricket, football, touch football and ultimate frisbee, and across junior and senior and men’s and women’s competitions.

“The new lighting will make this multisport facility more accessible more often and will support the growth of female sport, particularly female soccer.

“City of Ballarat’s Active Women and Girls Strategy highlights infrastructure improvements – like this one as crucial in helping to get more women and girls in our community active and involved”.
