Nancy Evans has made a huge difference to the cultural life of the Western Downs, and is encourage residents to nominate others who do the same.
There are many people in our community who put in countless hours of service, with no recognition.
This week is the opportunity to acknowledge the special seniors in our community who have made a huge difference to the cultural life of the Western Downs.
As part of the Australia Day Award nominations, residents have the opportunity to nominate people in a variety of categories including Senior Cultural Award.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Kaye Maguire said the cultural life of the region was just one reason the Western Downs has become one of Queensland’s most liveable places.
“No matter where you go in the Western Downs, you are bound to find a cultural aspect to the community which is thriving,” she said.
“We have many art galleries, performing arts groups and theatre groups which are all managed by dedicated volunteers who often go unnoticed.
“This is your opportunity to recognise some of those remarkable people who make a huge contribution to our region.”
Nancy Evans was this year’s recipient of the Senior Cultural Award for the Jandowae District.
For nearly three decades she has dedicated herself to being actively involved in the region’s cultural sector through her involvement with the Dalby Players Little Theatre, the Dalby Drama Festival, Bell Theatre Restaurant and 4ddd Community Radio.
She said the award has spurred her on to make an even bigger contribution to the arts.
“Anyone who is nominated for this award is not out for recognition, they are active in the arts because they are passionate about the Western Downs,” she said.
“I was honoured when I was nominated, and then to receive the award was a wonderful experience.”
Nominations for the 2019 Senior Cultural Person of the Year Award close on Wednesday 31 October.
