Community Festival to Celebrate WGAC Reopening

Published on 19 October 2018

The Baw Baw Shire community is invited to a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday 17 November to celebrate the grand reopening of the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

The all-day festival kicks off from 9.00am across the WGAC forecourt, running parallel to the Warragul Farmers Market and Arts Market in Civic Park.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Joe Gauci is encouraging everyone to come along and join in the celebrations as the Arts Centre doors officially reopen to the community.

“Over the past 20 months, our beloved Arts Centre has undergone a huge redevelopment both inside and out. Come and see the fantastic results for yourself, have a wander through and share in this exciting occasion. It’s an open-house event and everyone is welcome, we hope to see you there.”

Festival celebrations will include live music and entertainment throughout the day, roving performers, food stalls and loads of activities for families and children.

Join in the ever-popular interactive theatre performance of The Whale’s Tale by ‘Born in a Taxi’ (pictured below). The show will run twice on the day, the first show starts at 12:00pm - 12.45pm and the second from 2:00pm - 2.45pm.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in the forecourt at 11.00am with representatives from Council, State and Federal Governments.

Those keen to see the redevelopment in detail are welcome to take in a guided walking tour around the facility with Arts Centre staff. Tours will run throughout the day.

In the evening, the community will be able to take a seat in the refurbished theatre for a free performance by the Gippsland Symphony Orchestra. Seats are limited so bookings are essential, call 5624 2456.
