Macedon Ranges Shire Council has welcomed today’s $6 million election commitment from the Victorian Labor Government towards the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct project.
Minister for Sport, John Eren and Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas MP made the announcement during a visit to the site of the proposed precinct in New Gisborne.
This latest commitment is in addition to the $5.6 million announced by Premier Daniel Andrews in August, bringing their total commitment to $11.6 million if re-elected.
This comes on top of Council’s planned $10.7 million contribution and $100,000 in support from AFL Victoria.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Margot Stork said this latest funding commitment is a great outcome for the community.
“We’re really excited as these commitments, together with Council and AFL funds, brings us a step closer to our shared vision for a premier sporting destination in the Macedon Ranges.
“Our local community groups and sports associations are doing an amazing job in partnership with Council and we will continue our work to secure support from all levels of government to make this precinct a reality,” she said.
The precinct will feature a mix of state-of-the-art sports facilities and support a wide range of local sports clubs and community organisations; and also attract regional, state and other elite level competitions.
The facilities will be spread across two interconnected sites in New Gisborne at the corner of Barringo and Hamilton roads.
The project could be constructed in two stages with the first stage to cost approximately $31.4 million, and a future second stage at a cost of an additional $10 million.
