One tree in Patterson Park, Metung, will be removed by East Gippsland Shire Council for the community’s safety.
Council’s Parks and Gardens Coordinator Marc Taylor said Council’s arborists have for some time been regularly monitoring two trees within the Patterson Park precinct, however Council could no longer manage increasing risk to park users.
“‘Tree 1’, a blue gum, is above the barbecue and has significant bird damage and removal is the only remedial action to reduce risk of tree limb failure. It has been pruned previously to manage this risk,” Mr Taylor said.
“’Tree 2’, a spotted gum, is inside the play area and has previously been dead wooded and pruned. This tree will be substantially pruned while contractors are on site.
“An independent report on both trees was conducted and supported Council’s decision to carry out this work.”
Works will be conducted at some stage during the week beginning October 29, weather dependant. The stump of the tree being removed will be retained on site, with a potential future use to be determined.
