Sunday, November 11, 2018, 10:15am At 11am on 11 November 2018, Australia will commemorate the Centenary of the Armistice – the moment the guns finally fell silent on the Western Front, bringing an end to World War I. Although the news of the ceasefire was greeted with relief and joy, there was also a sense of shared grief and loss. Hardly a family was untouched – of the 330,000 men who had served overseas, 62,000 had been killed and more than 150,000 had been wounded or taken prisoner. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, people around Australia will pause to remember the lives lost during this and the other conflicts of the past century.
