The Mobile Library will visit Mallee Track and Millewa towns for the last time this week before a new era in library outreach services gets underway from Monday 29 October 2018.
Mildura Rural City Council plans to deliver library services to the Ouyen, Walpeup, Underbool, Cullulleraine and Werrimull communities in a brand new way. The huge Mobile Library truck that used to hit the road each week is being replaced with a more efficient and exciting offering, including:
OUYEN
A new, permanent library will operate from Council’s Ouyen Service Centre at 79 Oke Street. Open from 8am to 5pm weekdays and stocked with thousands of books and resources, the Ouyen Library will also offer Audiobooks, E-books, CDs & DVDs, Wi-Fi, computer and printer access, children's and school holiday programs and author visits.
WALPEUP
A weekly outreach service will visit the Walpeup Hall every Thursday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. A library staff member will bring a selection of different books, audiobooks, E-books, CDs and DVDs for locals to choose from each week and computer and Wi-Fi access will also be available.
UNDERBOOL
A weekly outreach service will visit the Underbool-Linga Hall every Tuesday from 10am to 1pm. A library staff member will bring a selection of different books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs for locals to choose from each week and computer and Wi-Fi access will also be available.
WERRIMULL
A weekly outreach service will visit the Werrimull Hall every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon. A library staff member will bring a selection of different books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs for locals to choose from each week and computer and Wi-Fi access will also be available.
CULLULLERAINE
A weekly outreach service will visit the former Lake Cullulleraine Tennis Club building every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. A library staff member will bring a selection of different books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs for locals to choose from each week and computer and Wi-Fi access will also be available.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica encouraged residents of these communities to make the most of the new library service offering.
“We know that having a library service is important for these communities, which is why we are continuing to deliver them and in Ouyen’s case, giving locals more access to a library than ever before,” Cr Modica said.
“I encourage existing and new library members to embrace these services and take the time to discover just how much a free library membership has to offer.”
This new era of library services for the Millewa and Mallee Track comes following a major review of all library services provided by Council. Cr Modica said the changes would not only save ratepayer dollars, but also ensure the demand for library services was met.
Also as part of the review, Mobile Library services to Nangiloc ceased in July 2018 and The Christie Centre commenced operations of a new Community Resource Centre in the former Irymple Library building in June 2018.
Meanwhile a permanent library is being established at Pioneer Park, Murrayville however an opening date for this new facility is not yet confirmed. In the meantime, the Mobile Library will continue to visit Murrayville every Wednesday from 12pm to 4.30pm. Council will keep Murrayville residents informed about the progress of their new service. The Mobile Library will continue to visit Cowangie for the next four weeks on Wednesdays from 10am to 11am and the final visit will be Wednesday 21 November.
