Wollongong City Libraries is adding to their diverse collection of services by launching a new free film streaming service, Kanopy.
The service is available online to all library members and puts more than 30,000 films, documentaries and television shows at your fingertips.
The service offers favourite films such as Hunt For the Wilderpeople and The Dressmaker, thought-provoking documentaries including That Sugar Film and Invisible Threat and Oscar-nominated films such as I Am Not Your Negro .
“Kanopy is a great addition to the Libraries’ growing online collection,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
“Not only can you use this service anywhere but it can also be streamed from any computer, smart TV or mobile device. With all the welcome wet weather we’ve had recently, now’s the perfect time to grab a blanket, bring out the snacks and enjoy a movie night at home with friends and family.”
Kanopy was founded in Perth in 2008 and the global platform has more than 5 million users. It provides access to films of unique social and cultural value and films that are often difficult or impossible to access elsewhere.
“The launch of Kanopy is another example of how our libraries are continuing to diversify and to offer a wide range of things for members and visitors,’’ Cr Bradbery said.
“Libraries are so much more than a place to borrow books or study. They’re open and inclusive spaces to visit and participate in an event or program. Our libraries also provide access to services from your own home and that includes the chance to watch films, documentaries and kids’ programs that might not be available on other channels.’’
