The Garage Sale Trail is about getting the community to connect over a bargain, and there were a lot – about 16,000 items were on offer. Garage sales promote the “reuse” of items that would normally be destined for landfill. Over 35 tonnes of items were estimated to be reused over the weekend in the City.
For any unsold items the City recommends finding a new home for them, instead of landfilling:
Donate them to local charity shops. Visit giv.org.au to find your nearest location. Clothing donation bins are located throughout the City, including several bright yellow ones around Rockingham Centre shopping centre. The Garage Sale Trail has teamed up with Gumtree this year. Details on how to sell leftover items on Gumtree will be available on the Garage Sale Trail blog. Leftover items can also be dropped off to the Millar Road Landfill’s recycling yard for free. Visit the landfill page for more information. Or why not hold another garage sale!
