Know your rights and prevent elder abuse in our community

Published on 23 October 2018

The rights of older people will be highlighted during November as Council supports two fascinating discussions aimed to empower seniors in the region.

Forum: Know your rights

The rights of older people and how they can assert them is the focus of this free forum, being held on Friday 16 November from 1–3pm at the Norma Richardson Hall, 15 Buckland Street, Woodend.

Speakers include:

Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior VictorianFs and Ambassador for Elder Abuse Prevention Andy Price, Office of the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner Gary Ferguson, Seniors Rights Victoria Representatives from Elder Rights Advocacy and Victoria Police.

The forum, being held in partnership with Cobaw Community Health, will be followed by afternoon tea and an opportunity to meet with speakers.

Workshop: Your voice—trust your choice

This free interactive workshop aims to provide community leaders, educators and volunteers with strategies and resources to help older people in choosing a power of attorney.

It will be presented by Nicolina Scarcella, Coordinator of the Advice and Education Service at the Office of the Public Advocate, and is being held on Thursday 22 November, from 10am–12pm at the Woodend Community Centre, corner of High and Forest streets, Woodend. Light refreshments will be provided.

Bookings are essential for both events.
