Connect with your neighbours and win

Eurobodalla residents are being encouraged to share stories about their amazing neighbourhoods and be in the running to win great prizes.

Eurobodalla Council is hosting a Neighbour Day ‘Tell us Your Story’ Competition to celebrate and encourage residents who connect with their neighbours.

There are three categories in the competition - greatest neighbourhood activity, greatest neighbourhood dinner and greatest neighbourhood act. On offer as prizes is a backyard fire pit sponsored by Council and a four-burner barbecue and a $100 gift card donated by Bunnings.

Entries can be in any writing style and comprise a few sentences or something more substantial. They should also be supported by photographs.

Council’s Community Development Coordinator Zoe Morgan said research showed loneliness and social isolation were harmful to our health.

“This is why Council wants to encourage our community to connect with their neighbours and to celebrate those who already are,” she said.

“Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can and do change communities. Social connection makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression.

“We know our community already hosts street gatherings, barbecues, afternoon teas and end of the cul-de-sac cricket matches.

“We want to see more of this and encourage residents to reach out, connect and become more engaged with their local community.”

The competition is linked to National Neighbour Day, which is celebrated annually on the last Sunday in March with the aim of fostering strong personal connections that last the whole year round.

Entries close Friday 23 November and the winners will be announced on Saturday, 1 December 2018.
