Pinefest Charity Funds to Assist in Local ICare Programme

Yeppoon State High School student and Yeppoon Lions Pinefest Ambassador Quest Winner for 2018, Shelby Newton, raised $20,019.88 for her nominated charities as part of the quest.
Half of the money raised by Shelby will be donated to the ICare Programme run through the Council’s Community Centre.
Community Development Councillor Jan Kelly said the ICare Program will benefit greatly from the $10,00 donation provided through 2018 Pinefest Ambassador Winner Shelby Newton.
“This is a wonderful achievement by Shelby and her team, and Council would like to sincerely thank everybody who donated towards this wonderful cause. The funds raised will make a huge difference to local people who are going through difficult life circumstances,” Councillor Kelly said.
The ICare programme was designed to create a streamlined way for community groups and individuals to donate items or money to residents doing it tough and the local community has really gotten behind this project.
Cr Kelly said this fantastic community response not only recognises the value of the services which Council sponsors at the Community Centre, but also highlights the ongoing need that we have for our wonderful community to continue to donate to program and its very grateful recipients.
“We find that the items most helpful for the ICare programme includes women’s and men’s personal hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, toothpaste, school supplies and washing powder.”

The Centre also accepts donations for other programmes connected to the ICare Community Project including Share the Dignity, Alternative Learning Spaces, Operations Education and the Yeppoon Salvation Army.
The Dignity First Community Centre Washroom is open from Friday to Sunday 6.30am to 9pm and Saturday 9am to 9pm.
