Winners announced for best gardens in Livingstone Lifestyle and Garden Competition 2018

The best gardens have been decided in what was some tough competition as part of this year’s 2018 Livingstone Lifestyle and Garden Competition.
Over 45 entries were put forward from local residents showcasing their unique garden creations, attracting some brilliant and innovative outdoor ideas across eight different categories.
The winners were officially announced on Friday night in a ceremony at Yeppoon Town Hall, where Deputy Mayor Nigel Hutton presented the winners with more than $5,000 in prizes and vouchers.
Glenys Benson was awarded the title of Grand Champion, with Reserve Champion presented to Philip McDonald.
Cr Hutton commended and thanked every resident, community group and school for putting forward their fantastic garden displays.
“Council appreciates and values the high level of care and work these people have put into beautifying and cultivating their gardens, and showcasing them as part of the competition,” Cr Hutton said.
“The judges viewed not only beautifully presented gardens in different localities across our region, but gardens that featured native plants, fruits and vegetables, as well as gardens with low water requirements or those that attract native wildlife and insects.”
In the newest category to be added this year, Kathryn Webb won Best Use of Recyclable/Reusable Items, for her excellent use of recycled material through most of her garden, including building her fence, retaining wall and pergola area.
