Council to host “Livingstone’s War on Waste” Community Forums

Waste Councillor Adam Belot said Council’s range of waste/recycling services and facilities, “how to live a zero waste life” and “how our recycling facility works” are just some of the topics that will be in discussion throughout the forums.

“Four guest speakers including EnviroLink coordinator Sabrina Burke and Shelly McArdle from Fitzroy Basin Association will talk to the community about the impact of waste and plastic not only on land, but our oceans and marine life as well,” Cr Belot said.

“These informative and educational forums give residents the opportunity to learn how our region’s waste and recycling facilities operate, while also providing tips on how best to recycle as well as reduce your waste.

“For example, residents may not know that plastic bags contaminate your recycle bin and therefore all of your items are sent to landfill instead. It’s simple tips like these that can make all the difference to improving our Shire’s waste and recycling outcomes.

“I strongly encourage anyone interested in getting along to one of the two forums to be held at The Hub in Beaman Park on Wednesday, 31 October and Saturday, 3 November.”

Council also provides recycling drop off facilities at its waste facilities located throughout the Shire for the same materials.
