It’s that time of the year again – bushfire season, so it's time to think about making sure your property is not a fire hazard.
It is your responsibility to make sure that your property is clear of any undergrowth or other materials that would be a fire hazard.
Clearing should be carried out in early Spring so your property meets requirements.
If you have a property within a residential area with a total area of less than 2000m2, you are required to keep the grass and fuel load below 100mm in height from the 1st of November to the 31st of March each year.
If you own a larger parcel of land (over 2000m2) within a residential area, a 3m wide fire break is required to be slashed along any boundary bordering on any dwelling, and kept to a height of 100mm for the entire fire season.
Careful inspection is made throughout Council's residential areas to check standards are maintained.
Any person who does not keep their land free of potential fire hazards may be issued with an Abatement Notice.
If you do not then clear your property we will engage a contractor to do the work, which will be invoiced to the property owner.
Remember fire hazard reduction is everyone’s responsibility.
