Australia Day Award entries extended

Residents have an extra two weeks to nominate people who give to the community for the 2019 Australia Day Community Awards with Council extending the closing date for entries to 16 November.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone encouraged residents not to miss the opportunity to nominate people who make a difference to the Fairfield City community through their selfless efforts.

“We have extended the closing date because we want as many deserving people as possible to be nominated,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We want to recognise and celebrate people who often quietly do their bit to make our City a better place.

“We all know these people - volunteers, sporting coaches, fund raisers – anyone who makes us proud to be an Australian.

“I encourage residents to take a few minutes to nominate those who are dedicated, passionate and giving in our communities. The Community Awards are a great way to acknowledge the work they do and thank them.”

The awards recognise contribution to the local community during the past year or over a number of years.

Award categories include:

• Citizen of the Year - 25 years and over

• Young Citizen of the Year – 12 to 24 years

• Volunteer of the Year - 12 years and over

• Sports Achiever of the Year - 12 years and over

The winners will be announced at a special ceremony in January 2019 at Fairfield City Council Chambers.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available from Council’s website. Nominations can be completed and sent online.
