Campaspe Shire Council has permanently closed vehicle access to a 500 metre section of Scenic Drive in Echuca for safety reasons.
Mr Richard Conway, Acting General Manager Infrastructure Services said no entry signs to part of the track have been in place for quite some time, however have been ignored and constant vehicle use of the track has compromised the track’s safety.
“A section of Scenic Drive is now permanently closed to all vehicle access as erosion of the bank has impacted the track making it unsafe,” Mr Conway said.
“The erosion has seen parts of the track wash away and in places is very dangerous and not suitable for vehicles.”
The section closed is between the Murray and Campaspe river junction and the Victoria Park boat ramp. New signage and barriers have been put in place today.
Emergency services and houseboat operators have been notified.
“For the safety of everyone, the closure has been a necessary outcome to ensure the community’s safety,” Mr Conway said.
“The community is encouraged to avoid vehicle access in the area to avoid further closures to the remaining parts of the track.”
The track remains open for pedestrians and cyclists.
