Join Boroondara’s own Camberwell Chorale and Melbourne-based Senegalese artist Lamine Sonko for a unique and beautiful musical collaboration at Hawthorn Arts Centre on Sunday 11 November.
Featuring compositions and arrangements by Lamine, this performance will traverse the rhythmic intricacies and harmonious melodies of traditional West African choral music.
Singing the Journey is a choral exploration of the philosophies of Senegalese poet, scholar and former president, Leopold Sedar Senghor, one of Africa’s most significant figures. Leading Senegal to peaceful independence in 1960, Senghor personified the will to transcend barriers without denying them, to understand differences and celebrate our common humanity.
This unique presentation of songs, stories, wonderful music and voices, promises to be an unforgettable event that is not to be missed.
