The City of Albany has won the Local Government Achieve award for its Cycle City Albany Strategy at the Your Move awards in Perth this week.

“The award recognises 5 years of work towards transe Local Government Achieve award for its Cycle City Albany Strategy at the Your Move awards in Perth this week.

Held every two years, the awards recognise outstanding achievements and contributions of local governments, schools and workplaces involved in the Department of Transports ‘Your Move’ program, which encourages the community to get around.

City of Albany Manager Recreation Services Samantha Stevens said she was incredibly proud to accept the awaforming Albany into a cycling destination and acknowledges the significant collaboration between the City of Albany and community groups,” Ms Stevens said.

“The Cycle City Albany Strategy has been the platform for a number of initiatives, including the employment of the first regional Travel Smart Officer, improved bike parking and skill development workshops.

“A key success of the Cycle City Albany Strategy was the RAC e-Bike trials which saw 20 staff from the City of Albany take up the opportunity to trial e-Bikes over a 10-week period, resulting in 14 staff purchasing the bikes for their daily commute to work.

“Another great initiative has been the Share the Road and Path campaign that promoted the need for all road and path users to be courteous and share the space.”

The Your Move awards also recognised Albany Primary School for their Your Move journey focusing on making active changes including the introduction of a walking school bus, Your Move student team and special events.
