Camp ground host program set to extend

In preparation for the influx of campers the City of Albany is looking to extend their Camp Ground Host Program to see hosts available in most campsites from Christmas to Easter.

Camp Ground Hosts are volunteers who help to provide quality customer service to campers, provision of information on the campsite rules, advice on surrounding areas, support with basic site maintenance and other assistance to City staff.

For the last two years the City has had Camp Hosts at Cosy Corner and Torbay Inlet campsites and has received positive feedback from campers, local residents and the hosts.

The City is currently working with support from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to recruit additional volunteers to see hosts in place at Betty’s Beach and Normans Inlet.

Camp hosts usually commit to working in a single campsite for between 2-4 weeks taking the opportunity to visit many of the other amazing areas around Albany during their stay.

Manager of City Reserves Jacqui Freeman said camp hosts are an important part of the City team over the peak summer period which is always busy with the arrival of visitors and local residents taking the opportunity to enjoy our coastal areas.

“Over the past few years camp hosts have enriched environmental management and protection of nature-based camping sites along the south coast and enhanced visitor experience,” Ms Freeman said.
