The final concept design for Stage 1 of the Bayside Netball Centre (12 outdoor netball courts, pavilion, canteen and toilets) will be finalised next month.
The Netball Centre is to be built on the site of the current Sandringham Driving Range, which is a former landfill site. As such, further geotechnical and soil testing is required to ensure any contaminated soil is treated or removed before construction. Council must also negotiate an early end to the lease arrangements of current tenants at the Driving Range.
Council will submit a planning permit application by March 2019, with a view to construction starting in October 2019. The plan is for the project to be completed by December 2020.
Design work for Stage 2 (indoor courts and additional outdoor courts) is also progressing well. The planning permit application will include Stage 2, to allow Council to develop it in the future, once funding is secured.
Council has preliminary funding indications from the Victorian Liberal Party for $3 million and is supporting the Sandringham District Netball Association in advocating for additional government funding and financial contributions from other funding bodies.
