Toowoomba Regional Council Portfolio Leader Environment and Community Cr Joe Ramia said “It’s back to business as normal for the Oakey Library after storm damage was caused to the roof and internal ceiling and walls as a result of last Thursday’s torrential downpour and storm.
The library reopened its doors to the Oakey community on Monday 29th October and all regular programs and services are now running as usual.
Cr Ramia said “The Oakey Library sustained damage to the southern side of the building after a huge tree branch came down and fell on the roof of the library”.
“As a result water filled the roof cavity. This resulted in the ceiling, wall paneling, carpets and some of the book sections including the Junior Book Section being water damaged and affected” Cr Ramia said.
“Council staff have moved quickly to repair the damage to the Library so that the Oakey community would not be greatly affected and inconvenienced by the closure of the library due to the repair works needing to be undertaken” Cr Ramia said.
Some works are still required to be completed to the outside of the building but internally the library is again open to members of the local Oakey community.
The Oakey Library is open Monday – Friday 9m to 5pm and Saturdays 9am – 12pm.
Oakey Library members have access to a wide range of services available to them including Internet access, free computer classes, computers, health and well-being reference material, resources for children, teachers, parents and tutors and free online courses.
